Hi and welcome to another blog post! Today I’m going to be sharing with you my recent travel experience in the Almeria province of Spain. If you follow my socials you will have seen some of this photography already! This post is going to be a long one so grab a hot drink, get comfy and enjoy! This is a special post for me as I love being able to share my experiences with you, this will be the only post this weekend as I am currently working hard on E book planning and a re-brand for my blog! The re-brand was supposed to happen in January, however due to certain circumstances it has been pushed back to later in the year (date tbc soon so stay tuned!) Without further a do, lets get into the post!
Keep reading to day 4 to get my custom made 1 day itinerary exploring the Cabo de Gata region!
My trip started in a small hotel next to Gatwick airport on the night before I flew out to Almeria airport. It was a 5am wake up but well worth it, arriving at 11am Spanish time meant the day was still young and there was plenty of time to explore the Serena Beach area in the resort of Roquetas De Mar. I didn’t do much as I was shattered from the flight but I did have a walk around for the afternoon before a lovely dinner with some friends at the Spice Hut Indian restaurant.
The day started off with a lovely breakfast at Lilly’s bar, (I really would recommend it if you’re into a good old fashioned English breakfast!) The prices are very reasonable, the staff are very friendly and the food was gorgeous!
Today was a day full of sightseeing! I decided to walk into the main resort of Roquetas. It was a beautiful sunny day but too windy to sunbathe, I had already researched the area before arriving and so I knew where I wanted to visit. There were a few main places I wanted to visit: the white sandy beach, the lighthouse, the castle and the bull ring. As well as just taking in the stunning scenery of the hour long walk.

Dinner of choice today was at the La Grappa restaurant! I loved it so much I ended up going back 3x during the stay. The service and food was amazing, it is primarily an Italian restaurant but also does meat and fish dishes including BBQ meat on the grill.
The next day was much the same, however I decided to explore in the other direction this time after another breakfast at Lilly’s bar. I went to visit the Parque Natural Punta Entinas, it is an area of rugged and natural wasteland. I would recommend not visiting alone and only visiting during daylight hours as people are scarce. But it is a lovely place to visit and see some Flamingos!
Today was road trip day, there are no trips to Cabo de Gata in the Winter off peak period so I decided to hire a car and explore the area myself, this is the itinerary for my road trip in case you want to follow it and use it for your own trip. I packed a lot into that day, let me know if you use my itinerary and be sure to tag me in your photos on social media – katiethetourist! I hired the car for the day from Almericar for 50 euros and set off early in the morning to make the most of the day. It took an hour to drive from the resort to the first stop and I arrived back at the resort at 7pm. I just plugged all of the destinations into google maps, leaving me with a ready made satnav.
Stop 1: Cabo de Gata lighthouse and Mermaid’s reefStop 2: San JoseStop 3: Los Escullos BeachStop 4: La Amatista ViewpointStop 5: NijarStop 6: Last but not least, Mojacar
So that was the end of my road trip itinerary, I really hope you enjoyed the photography, the day ended with a meal at the Mar y Sol restaurant/bar, if you’re looking for a lively evening to enjoy a dinner and meal be sure to drop by and watch some of the sport that’s on the TV.
I decided to embarque on a day excursion with Pepe Tours to Granada and the Alhambra palace. It was 60 euros so quite pricey but well worth it for what you get. The coach ride itself was fascinating, there was lots of insight into the surrounding area as well as a stop at a lovely beach along the way.We then went into the city of Granada itself and had two hours to get lunch as well as exploring the beautiful area. The tour guide explains the sights and then allows you to explore them at your leisure. I also had a delicious Paella at a local restaurant.
The highlight of the trip was of course the Alhambra palace, a Spanish architectural phenomenon and the most famous monument in the whole of the region. I’m just going to be sharing the photography with you today because to understand the full culture of the Alhambra you really need to take a tour round the palace.
Day 6 is the last day I’m going to write about because day 7 was spent sunbathing after a packed 6 days of sightseeing and exploring. I decided to take the bus to the city of Almeria (mainly to visit the Alcazaba,) it’s free for EU citizens and 1 euro 50 for non EU citizens and it really is worth it. The Alcazaba takes about a morning to explore properly and then you have the rest of the day to explore the city. Here are the photos:
Well, that’s it for my account of the 7 day trip to the Almeria Province. I really hope you enjoyed it and be sure to follow my social media accounts on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter to see more photography over the coming weeks. Until next weekend, bye 🙂
