Here in the UK Christmas is all about family coming together, eating a meal and watching everyone open their presents. It is a day of love, good will and togetherness. Many people will also use Christmas to donate to a Charity of their choice (charities giving children a good Christmas are usually the most popular at this time of year.)

Most families have a Christmas Tree in their house for Christmas and decorating the tree is usually a family occasion. Holly, Ivy and Mistletoe are also sometimes used to decorate homes or other buildings. Christmas Trees were first popularised the UK by Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria.

Most villages, towns and cities are decorated with Christmas lights over Christmas. Often famous people switches them on. The most famous Christmas lights in the UK are in Oxford Street in London.

Nativity Plays and Carol Services are very popular at Christmas time. Children believe that Father Christmas leaves presents in their stockings. Children sometimes leave out mince pies for Father Christmas to eat when he visits them. As well as a few carrots for his reindeer!

Boxing Day is a very old custom that started in the UK and is now taken as a holiday in many countries around the world. In the UK, the main Christmas Meal is usually eaten at lunchtime on Christmas Day. It’s normally roast turkey, although traditionally, roast beef or goose was peoples Christmas meal.

Overall Christmas is a joyous occasion and celebrated throughout the country! It is my favourite holiday of the year, I really hope you enjoyed reading about it!
