Hi everyone and welcome to today’s post! Now I don’t know about you but I am dreaming of going somewhere beautiful and snowy this Christmas! Or maybe you are lucky enough to live somewhere snowy already? If so let me know in the comments! For me this year, dreaming is the key word as I am relying on the UK producing snow for Christmas! So I thought I would research some of the best snowy places for Christmas around the world!
Number 1 has to be Vienna! Or just Austria in general! Austria without snow is totally stunning but with snow is just a whole other level! Vienna is also home of one of the most prestigious Christmas Markets in the world! From Hallstatt to Salzburg to of course Vienna, Austria is covered in snow and also offers winter activities higher up in the mountains!
The second place of course has to be Switzerland, a hub of skiing, snowboarding and all things snow it is a stunning place to visit over Christmas! I have never been but I’m super jealous of everyone on my Instagram feed snapping shots out in the Swiss snow! Winter sports not your thing? Hire a cabin and enjoy walks in the snow and photography of the stunning scenery!
If you’re into quiet, serene beauty then small mountain towns in the French Alps are perfect for you! These quaint little towns are set in unspoilt areas of outstanding natural beauty and are perfect gems for photography! These towns being so small are fairly top end budget however so definitely one for the bucket list!
Of course this wouldn’t be a true Christmas blog post if I didn’t mention New York! With the ice skating rinks and the stunning, world famous Christmas Tree in Rockefeller centre it truly is a magical experience! New York does Christmas so well with fun for all the family from cute cafes to endless shopping opportunities! And of course New York is every photographers dream – especially in winter!
Oslo in Norway has incredible ski resorts and stunning mountains just a few hours away by train, which makes Oslo a great central choice for all lovers of snowy, cold Christmases. In fact Norway in general no matter where you go is just stunning and you won’t be disappointed!
I don’t know much about this next one however from the photos it looks absolutely beautiful! Vilnius is Lithuania’s Capital city and they do Christmas so well! With a dusting of snow on the ground and a chance to ride on the iconic Christmas train there is so much to do in this beautiful city! The area is heavily decorated and caters for the tourists so you can guarantee a brilliant time!
Ushuaia in Argentina again has a snow train! (I’m obsessed and so desperately want to go!) Due to its location you’re pretty much guaranteed to have a stunning white Christmas! This stunning location is generally missed by tourists so it’s a real gem and I’m so glad I can share its beauty with you all!
Reykjavik, Iceland captures the best of both worlds! It has opportunities to see the stunning Northern Lights as well as heavy snowfall with temperatures of about -2 degrees around Christmastime! Snowfall and Northern Lights in my opinion equal the perfect Christmas and the most stunning photography opportunities to be the talk of Instagram!
Tallinn is Estonia’s capital and it truly is a charming little place full of character – especially during winter time. Tallinn has somehow managed to escape the tourists eye for many years. However it is a truly amazing place – whether you want to visit for a day trip or for a longer stay in peace and tranquillity.
Finally, I am going to be talking about: Aspen, Colorado. Here you are guaranteed that you will find lots of snow for your photos and activities. But it’s the Christmas spirit and charm that brings the tourists into Aspen because it is a truly magical fairy tale Christmas experience. The scenery is picture perfect and a perfect place for all lovers of Christmas!
